Member of the Month – May 2010

Welcome back readers. Got another fantastic featured member story to share with you about our May Member of the Month, Jane Hatker.

So I know from personal, hands-on experience that you can get a lot done in a short period of time (aka da move!). Our gal Jane has likewise shifted a mountain of weight over a short period of time and in doing so has completely changed the course of her life.

December 2009…. that wonderful time of the year when the average American piles on the extra pounds and then says,  “I’ll start eating better and exercising in the new year.” Jane looked at this time period realistically and came up with a PLAN – a Jane PLAN.

The winning PLAN started with I CAN DO THIS. I CAN DO THIS. I CAN DO THIS.  “I will start my exercise program Dec. 9th and start my new eating habits Dec. 28th.” Operation PLAN is working beautifully. One hundred and thirty days later, thirty pounds lighter and all blood pressure medications GONE, Jane is looking like a rock star! Says Jane, with my lifestyle changes, my BP has dropped from 160/86 to 110/70 ish and that’s when Dr. David Black yanked my meds.

“I want to retire in 6-years, says Jane. At 58 years and 5’5”, my previously unhealthy weight of 187 lbs and waistline spelled trouble… I knew I had to make some drastic changes.” A self-professed Weight Watchers and Nutri-Systems failure, Jane knew she had to start eating healthy. On Dr. Black’s instruction, she read The End to Overeating by David A. Kessler M.D., combined that with a regular exercise program and viola-success.

Newsflash: If you don’t start a good diet and workout program in your 50’s or 60’s, you are not going to be strong for the last third of your life. Waiting to start later is not an option….Heart disease is our number one killer. You need to get serious and know the effects not exercising has on your body. You need to drink water and not a glass full of chemicals! You need to make a PLAN and we will help you execute it.

Success Tip #1: Jane has an amazing ‘attitude of gratitude’ that I believe is a big part of her success. Even with our recent move, I honestly could have hung the Precors from the ceiling fans and she’d still find a way to be happy and thankful. A few of you by the way could truly benefit from this attitude of gratitude that Jane exudes! “The atmosphere at Fit For Life is a great fit for me, says Jane and has been central to the success of my new lifestyle program.”

Jane exercises 3 days a week. She hits the Precor for 30 mins or 300 kcal whichever comes first followed by 20 mins on the bike. She lifts weights 2 -3 days, stretches and finishes with some key core exercise. That’s it. Couple that with eating healthy and always eating breakfast, Jane has figured out what works for Jane.

And the numbers are in to prove it. Congratulations Jane. Your friends at Fit For Life are absolutely thrilled for you. You have truly inspired a bunch of us.
